Friend –How are you feeling?

(A good question and one we have been asked continually over the past few months but particularly as we say our goodbyes and prepare to leave.)

Me  – “Think of an emotion and I’m probably feeling it to some degree”

Friend – “Anger?”

Me – “ Apart from that”

Friend – “Indifference?

Me – “No not that either but lots of others!”

I am sure there are lots of other emotions that we are and aren’t feeling but at the moment it seems that everything is a jumble. We are excited about the adventure ahead of us, about seeing what God is doing in Zimbabwe and getting involved with it. Trepidation about what we will encounter yet certainty that it is the right thing to be going. Thankful for what God has done in our lives and will continue to do. Fear that we will make a hash of things. Loved by our friends and families but a deep sadness about leaving them. As I have said goodbye to friends that walked alongside me for many years I have felt overwhelmed with a kind of grief but trusting that these friendships will run the course.

‘Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot wash it away’ (Songs 8:7)

I first felt God call me overseas when I was 9 years old. It is nearly 20years from that moment and as we have spoken in churches and to friends; sharing our stories, I am continually reminded that we are in the palm of His hand, whatever we may be feeling and wherever we are.

“Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?

If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right handwill hold me fast.” (Psalm 139 7-10)

Whatever this adventure had in store for us I am grateful to all our friends, families, church communities and of course God for walking alongside us. Thank you!  Lois x
