We had A Very Hungry Caterpillar theme for playgroup last week. As I read the story, the children took it turns to find the food described and feed the caterpillar (a play tunnel).
As I’m sure you recall “On Friday he ate through 5 oranges, but he was still hungry”.
Well this time it was D’s turn. He is a bright and articulate four year old, who loves eating oranges and the previous week had helped to pick a bagful from our tree. However, as he searched and searched the bag of toy food, there were no oranges to be found. Not any oranges that he recognised anyway. I realised he was looking for a round fruit called an Orange, because like our lemons, Gulu oranges are in fact green.
